One of our BC SDA members, Katherine Soucie of Sans Soucie Clothing and Textile Design, will be presenting at this year’s SDA conference in San Antonio, Texas (coming up soon!). Here is the catalogue description of her talk – bound to be fascinating:

The Art of Zero Waste
The (zero.O.lab) serves as an incubator for artists, designers and creative thinkers to work collaboratively within the community to help redefine fashion in the 21st century through zero waste art and design concepts and practices.
This lab was established in 2010 as a part of my thesis research project at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. My presentation will focus upon successful collaborations where the role of textiles, art and zero waste were implemented to create discussion and build community.

She will also be selling her work at the conference Trunk Show. She is making a limited edition set of scarves and shawls to sell at this event that she will donate proceeds from as well.

For more info on the SDA conference, click here. You do need to be a member of the Surface Design Association to attend.

Katherine and her work have been featured in lots of magazines, such as freshlyWorn (click on the title then the preview button and go to the pages with Katherine’s article. Below is a page from the article.)

There seems to be no end to Katherine's accomplishments, including completing a Master's degree this year, but currently one of her projects is to help save the Textile Arts program at Capilano University in North Vancouver. She recently announced that she will donate half the proceeds from sales of her most recent collection to saving the programs.
